On this page, you can find the answers to the most frequently asked questions concerning all aspects of the application process at IWES and some tips for compiling and structuring your application.

What types of application does IWES accept?

There are two possible types of application:

1. You can apply directly for a specific vacancy: Current vacancies

2. You can send us an unsolicited application. The procedure varies depending on the desired entry point:

a) If you are just starting your career or have professional experience, you can send us your unsolicited application via the following link, stating your desired focus of activity in your documents: Unsolicited application form career starters and experienced professionals

b) As a student, you can apply for one of our location-specific unsolicited positions. The research fields at our various locations are very different. Decide for yourself which topic you find most exciting and apply to the relevant location with reference to your area of interest: Unsolicited application for an internship or as a student assistant with/without thesis

What documents are relevant for your application?

Regardless of the type of application, please send us the documents below so that we get a comprehensive picture of you, your qualifications, and your experience:

• Personal cover letter
• Complete résumé
• Certificates (diplomas/final certificates, current overview of grades, certificate of qualification for university matriculation)
• References and letters of recommendation
• If applicable, list of academic publications

Why do we expect a cover letter and what should it contain?

Your personal cover letter tells us why you are interested in a position in our institute and what skills you bring with you. In addition, it provides us with information on your qualifications and skills – including and especially with regard to the designated job profile or the preferred field of activity in case of unsolicited applications. Share with us what motivates you and why IWES is the right employer for you.

How do you submit your application?

Please only submit applications via the “Apply now” button on the respective vacancy page. Applications received via e-mail or through the mail are neither accepted nor taken into consideration. Unsolicited applications must also be submitted online via our job portal. There are special options available for this among the vacancies.

What are the application deadlines?

The application deadline is specified in the respective vacancy listing. If no date is specified, you can apply at any time as long as the vacancy is still online. You may submit unsolicited applications at any time.

What is the selection process like?

Once the application deadline has passed and the application has been processed, you will be contacted by the respective institute department. If your documents have piqued our interest, the next step is a meeting and opportunity to chat. This allows us to get to know you as well as possible and offer you a comprehensive insight into the work of our institute.
